Travel Team: Elite Performance

There is alot to like about Martinez. As soon as he walks off the bus, you see the kid is a athletic and strong.  The hit & power tools are the most exciting part of his game. He is listed as SS but we feel he will outgrow the position physically and move to 3B or COF. Below is the breakdown of his tools:

  • Hit Tool: Compact swing with excellent bat speed. Good barrel accuracy, ball flies off the bat. He is a line drive hitter, hits everything with authority. We’d like to see him loose the bat wrap in the beginning of his swing as that may become an issue at the next level with timing.
  • Power Tool: Has the strength for power, but needs time to grow. Right now he has gap power and we see that improving in the future. He currently has excellent power on our scale.
  • Arm Tool: He has an outstanding arm, with a long arm action. Hell stick at SS for now, but a move to 3B or COF is not out of the question down the road. Throws strikes to the base, can throw from all angles. He does a good job of staying behind the ball.
  • Defensive Tool: Kid has plenty of range! Needs to develop here as is slightly stiff at times and footwork needs improvement. Martinez is always ready and has good hands.
  • Run Tool: He is an above average runner. Moves well out there, and as we stated above covers alot of ground at SS.
  • Player Grade: 7.9

We can’t wait to see him develop the hit tool and power tools as we feel this will be the biggest strength of his game. Solid all-around player!
